Upgrade from XP Home to XP Media

Hey everyone, just wondering how troublesome it would be to upgrade from XP home to XP media. Also what exactly are the differences between the two? Would it require a re-format, or can you install it over XP home? Thanks in advance, Dave

I don't think that's possible. I was told you needed XP pro installed before windows xp media is installed. And I have a windows XP media center already installed on my notebook.

Here's a link about WMC 2005

What exactly are the differences between the two. I can watch DVD's on my XP home pc, and if I wasn't lazy I could configure my video card to play tv, although I'd have to buy a tv tuner card. I can burn Dvd's so what is the need for XP media? Thanks, Dave

If you would go to the links I'd provided you would see the difference. But if your computer does not have the correct compnents and windows xp pro, you will not be able to upgrade to window media center.

This link talks about the requirments in order to upgrade
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/m...e/default.mspx

Here is what windows media center can do

Here's a demo

I checked out the links you provided after your first post. Which is why I posted again asking what XP media can do, after a few upgrades, that any Xp home system can't. I don't see a whole lot( after viewing your links again ) that really inspires me to upgrade. In my opinion, not a lot to inspire anyone to go out and buy a Media OS, unless they are looking for a new pc. If I were buying a new pc, I'd probably get XP media, but seeing as I can do almost the same things now, on my XP home machine, why waste the time or the money? Thanks for the reply, Dave
