Howdy and welcome to CTH:
Okay, first you need to boot into BIOS (setup) and make sure the first boot device is set to the cd-rom.. If the first boot device in BIOS is set to the cd-rom (you did use F10 to save the change and exit BIOS), all you need to do is put the XP cd into the cd-rom and reboot the system.. It should boot to the cd-rom and you should see a "press any key to boot from cd".. You have to press a key or it will just keep booting to the hdd!! Have you checked to make sure this system can even handle XP (forget what they say for minimum requirements.. you will need at least 256megs of ram - 512 preferred or you will be back shortly asking how to get rid of XP and go back to 98 !!) Nope.. you did fine.. One of the features of XP is that it will give you the option (during setup) to delete all partitions on your hdd (your old Win98 system) and then format and install XP..
