Seems there is a big load on the update site it is taking for ever to download. Strange thing is that i had the auto update featured turned off.

If you contact your local Microsoft office they will post you SP2 free of charge when it is made available to the public.Saves a lot of downloading !!!

Thanks I did not know that. Have you been able to download it yet? My download has been stuck at 74% for a few hours guess I am going to reboot.

Cool

Finally got it to work, took two reboots, and then there was no indication of a download, a lot of hard drive crunching, and presto.

Damn thing turned on all the services I had disabled... Including system restore. I don't like that one bit, where is that bug report form?

System Restore is a good one to keep on. You might find that the firewall is also on (Security in control panel).

Sound like a company person. I no like system restore and do not use it. I have other things in place that I like better, like backups, and years of computing experience, must be at least a million years worth here alone. Router and ZA in place, as well as too many layers to list here. Come and get me you bad guyz!!

Goto Automatic Updates and choose the settings you want.
I think there are settings to
Download and Install
Download but notify before install
Notify when downloads are available

The new XPSP2 seems to care little for what my wishes are concerning this. Some good features but if MS tries to cram them down the user's throat they'll choke. I guess it is hard to find a balance. Most of the problems are because users do not keep their OS updated. I have no solution, but I do like several of the enhanced features I have explored thus far.

Thanks Degs
