Monitor settings

I am using Mandriva One.

I can't figure out how to change the monitor settings to show anything larger than 800x600, the maximum choice in the Desktop configuration's Display Settings.

Consequently, some web pages don't fit on screen.

The computer is pretty old (Pentium 3) with a Virge graphics card, and the monitor is a 15 inch CRT, but I have no problems making the adjustments on the same machines when I'm using Win98 with them.

I don't know how to do any terminal stuff like sudo, and I'm really not too interested in learning it; is there something else to do?

Thanks.

But all I got was the second, fourth and fifth columns, and the largest entry was 800x600, which is what I had, so no obvious way to change the size.

The other choice was

Make yourself root and then edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf or /etc/X11/XF86Config
This is beyond my ability. I don't know what it means to "make yourself root" or how to accomplish that.

I guess that's the end of the line on this.

Total Noob: Please open a text editor, open the file, /etc/X11/xorg.conf, and post the contents of this file here.

Don't know how

Dear Kage:

I don't know how to do what you have asked. Are you saying I should open this file as if it was a word processing document? And if so, how do I save it again without adding text formatting, such as paragraph instructions?

Open a text editor, such as gedit, and then using the text editor, open /etc/X11/xorg.conf and post the contents here.
