you should follow the instructions on the manual to log into your router to setup wireless security and what not

or tell us exactly what you have done so far

Is your computer set up to receive DHCP, or does it have a static IP? A post of your ipconfig /all from a cmd prompt would be helpful. That routers IP is 192.168.1.1, and if you have a static IP you can get the message you've described.

Can you post the connection info for the adapter card? Like what I've posted below. That will give a better idea on your connection to the router.
Quote:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Linksys Wireless-G PCI Adapter
Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx
Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes
Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.2
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1
DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1
DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1
Have you tried to "repair" the network connection? Right click on the network icon for the adapter and select repair. see if that helps.
You can also try "ipconfig /renew".

What error message do you get when trying to connect to the router? or does it just hang? Have you tried pinging the address? (open a cmd box and type "ping 192.168.1.1"). you should get an output similar to the following:
Quote:
Pinging 192.168.1.1 with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 192.168.1.1: bytes=32 time=3ms TTL=64
Reply from 192.168.1.1: bytes=32 time=1ms TTL=64
Reply from 192.168.1.1: bytes=32 time=1ms TTL=64
Reply from 192.168.1.1: bytes=32 time=1ms TTL=64

Ping statistics for 192.168.1.1:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 1ms, Maximum = 3ms, Average = 1ms
Try turning off your firewall and attempt to connect again, sometimes firewalls won't allow new connections unless they are configured for it.
If your wireless card on the laptop is enabled, turn it off or disable it.
