Here Ya Go Buzz....
If I was to have an OS 10.2, where would I find a Sound Recorder in it, or wouldn't it have one, and if not, do you have any suggestions to a freebie version?

System preferences > sound
You need to have an external mic hooked up to the Mac though or some other sound input device (like a USB midi cnnection or something). All macs can record sound all you need is the mic plugged in. There's a jack on the back of Macs (haven't seen the back of the new imacs, so...) with a little microphone next to it. |

Well I can't figure out how to do it Buzz! The mic plugs in at the side ....that much I got! When I go to Preferences > Sound and select Input > External microphone .......then what? I want to make a sound file that I can eventually wind up with a .wav, about 20 seconds long.
Please be gentle ...... this is a first for me! :uhoh: Thanks!! |

Okay...
Conrrol Panels > Sound. Set the Sound input to External Mic. Now go to the Alert Sounds. Click "New" and you can record 10 second bits of sound. The sound files get put inside your system suitcase inside your system folder. If you want to make it a little easier and record longer bits of sound grab a sound application like ProTools (there's a free version) http://www.protools.com/ or Amedeus http://www.versiontracker.com/morein...id=7392&db=mac The sound apps will make it a little easier and if you want to record more than 10 seconds they are the only way to do it. Sound can be as complicated as graphics don't let it scare you off. |

Hey, Scott! Guess what? That wasn't half bad!! Actually, it meant I had to go back to my 9.2 partition, 'cause somehow 10.2 doesn't let you do your own sounds. If it does, I sure couldn't find out where. But it's done, and I thank you!

Thanks Steven. I couldn't come up with any freeware small sounds apps off-hand. I'm a ProTools user.
Thanks again. |

Thanks, Steven. I've downloaded it and will have a look at it when brain-strain isn't a issue!

ProTools has a 100% free version. But... it's not simple. It's a really complex application.

I can't select the sound source either from the sound control panel ..it says " another app is using it. Can't find such an app. it's not speakables, etc. very difficult to get in through the analog mic port. I think the USB port would be preferable, but that would usually entail another piece of converting hardware externally ..and it goes on and on... should be able to set the source from the control panel.
