Starting WoW. Need to ugrade vid card?
My brother has talked me into playing World of Warcraft. I want to make sure my system is at least competent. I'm most worried about my older vid card, but I'll post other info here.
425W power supply 2.85 gigahertz Intel Pentium 4 2 GB Kingston PC3200 DDR 400MHz RAM ATI Radeon 9600 / X1050 Series The site recommends a "128 MB VRAM 3D graphics processor such as an ATI Radeon X1600." I know my card is pretty old, and I don't even know off the top of my head how much VRAM it has. Will my video card support the game? Would getting a new one make a big difference? Or would upgrading something else (processor) make a bigger improvement? The problem is I really don't think I can afford a new processor right now, but a vid card at or below $100 is possible. Thanks in advance! |

Your computer is fine. World of Warcraft is not very graphic intensive; I used to run it using an ATI Radeon x800, so your x1050 is more than enough. Besides, the game allows you to turn down graphics settings.
Higher graphics capabilities on WoW aren't really that impressive. I have a 26" monitor running at 1920x1200 resolutions on max graphics settings, and it's not anything next gen. WoW is an old game. |
