Dropbox uninstalled OK? Don't see where you answered an earlier question - do you use a phone tether to access the Internet (or have used one)?

Uninstall Avast - you can always reinstall it after we are through here. Reboot after.

Run a new Gmer scan, and either post that log, or if it is huge again, zip a copy of it, and send it to jintan@malwarecrypt.com as an attachment. Please place "Submitted Files - jonboy123" as the email Subject.

---------

Download CCleaner from here, and click the file to install it.

Click Next, then uncheck the 3rd, 4th and 5th options, then click Install.

When the install finished, uncheck "View Release notes", then click Finish.

Then click "Run Cleaner" and allow it to delete all the stored up temp files that can bog things down.

----------

Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your desktop.
  • Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
  • Click on J'accepte.
  • Click on Search.
  • Click on Report.
  • A logfile will automatically open.
  • Please post the contents of that logfile with your next reply.
  • You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[R1].txt as well.

Also download HijackThis from Here. Then click on the downloaded file, and install HijackThis.

In HijackThis, click Config - Misc Tools - Open Uninstall Manager.

Click on Save List, then save that to a location you can locate again (such as the desktop). Copy/paste the contents of that back here please.

Hi Tom.

Dropbox uninstalled with no issues as did Avast. I have never used a phone tether to access the internet. Here is the latest (considerably shorter) GMER scan log:

Windows 7 Ultimate PC sluggish

Hi Tom.

I had to do some work stuff using the internet so decided to re-install Avast just to be safe. Let me know if I should uninstall it again.

Actually, I wanted Avast out of the way so we could get a clearer Gmer scan.

Looks like you have run AdwCleaner there many times before. Use caution - it could make mistakes.

Jaksta Media Player (3.2.0.3)
Jaksta Media Recorder (5.0.1.36)
Jaksta Network Monitor (3.0.8.1)

I only just first saw this software in another new thread. Never heard of it before. First question is why some media program requires a network monitor. And then these:

O20:64bit: - AppInit_DLLs: (C:\Windows\Jaksta\AC\x64\jaudcap.dll) - C:\Windows\Jaksta\AC\x64\jaudcap.dll (Jaksta Technologies Pty Ltd)
O20 - AppInit_DLLs: (C:\Windows\Jaksta\AC\x86\jaudcap.dll) - C:\Windows\Jaksta\AC\x86\jaudcap.dll (Jaksta Technologies Pty Ltd)

Those mean the programs loads itself during bootup into other running processes. Very suspect.

Why not uninstall all Jaksta programs, but decline a reboot just yet if suggested.

---------

Be sure to continue to temporarily disable any protective software when running the scan tools we use here.

  • Close all open programs and internet browsers.
  • Double click on adwcleaner.exe to run the tool.
  • Click on Clean.
  • You will be prompted to restart your computer. A text file will open after the restart.
  • Please post the contents of that logfile with your next reply.
  • You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[S1].txt as well.

Open AdwCleaner, and click the Uninstall button to have it remove itself.

Then post back a status on things - what problems you still have please.

Windows 7 Ultimate PC sluggish

Hi Tom.

I re-uninstalled Avast to do this ADWCleaner scan and clean. The other logs were all without Avast also therefore the GMER logs would have been as you wanted them.

Jaksta has been uninstalled although I don't know if there is something left in the registry (I looked but couldn't see anything to do with Jaksta) as I got a brief message saying that it couldn't be completely uninstalled. I clicked OK and it proceded to uninstall, giving me a message at the end to say that it had been uninstalled succesfully?

When rebooting, the system seems to start quickly but when I log on to my profile, I sometimes get a black screen. The cursor moves across the screen but it is just like it hasn't fully loaded. Ctrl + Alt + Delete, then log off via task manager and re log on and it works fine. (Doesn't do it every time and hasn't this evening)

Apart from that, the system is nowhere near as sluggish as before.

Here is the ADWCleaner log:

Also, go to Control Panel - User Accounts, and create a new Admin user account. Then Restart and boot into that new account, and check for change.

I can set up a new user but the system won't let me put a password in. If I click into the new profile, there is absolutely no content so clearly something wrong there.

You will need your product key for Windows 7, usually posted on a sticker at the bottom of the laptop, to complete these next steps.

Put the Windows 7 disk in the DVD drive.

Do everything here starting with Step 8 (though read through the earlier verbiage so you can grasp what you are doing).

What you are basically doing is upgrading Windows 7 to Windows 7, which will rewrite many of the Windows functions, and also remove many malware settings.

Post back how you fared please.

Trouble is that I have the original windows 7 disc and it is now SP1. I don't really understand what to do about that from the website. When I try to upgrade, it won't do it because the current version (sp1) is more recent than the disc.
I have downloaded the iso file for sp1 but it isn't very clear to me what I should do with it. I have downloaded the 7 zip file manager also. Still won't work though. Can you explain how to do it in laymans terms Tom?
