recovery disk problems

My PC was infected with a virus so I formatted and tried to re-install with the recovery disk. Two things have happened: 1) after inserting the 1st disk I was prompted to enter the "Authenticity Code" the code that came with Win98 does not fill all of the required boxes, is there something I can do? 2)I wondered why I wasn't prompted for the 2nd disk so I re-installed the 1st disk again. After the 1st disk I was prompted to install the 2nd this time. Now windows starts up correctly and then during windows booting up the screen compresses horizontally to where I can't view. HELP! I would appreciate any help Thanx. Eric
