Question Requiring Password/PIN at Logon?

Good Evening!

I am still running Windows 8.1 on my Lenovo AIO; Once upon a time, the computer used to require a PIN / password upon startup.

Now, I am automatically logged into my Windows account without such prompting.

I'm not able to locate a way to turn this option back on...I can lock it, and there's a "require upon wake from sleep" option, but how did it stop in the first place, and what can I do to go back to the prior state of affairs?

Frankly I don't think I really even need to be logged into my Windows account 24/7 on this machine, so maybe that's a key? I'm not sure.

Sorry for asking for help on what would appear to be an ancient OS by today's standards! Any advice would be much appreciated!

Thanks so much!

Thanks for sharing!

Unfortunately, what appears to happen is that I'm only being prompted for the PIN if I physically lock the computer while it is still powered on.

I used to receive the prompt when I booted it up, but that doesn't happen anymore. That's what I want to occur, but I'm not sure how to revert back to that option.

Officially from Microsoft:
How it is enabled:

Technically, you can just reverse that process to disable it, but if registry editing is daunting for you, use the linked sysinternals tool to set it to "disable":
