Windows Vista Problem solving for the Windows Vista Operating System. Please remember to state which edition of Vista you are using - Home Basic, Home Premium, Business, Ultimate etc. and whether you are using the 32-bit or 64-bit version if you know. |

Attempted to Install XP over Vista
Rather a bizarre situation where a friend wanted to install Works 9 on his version of Vista which is on an Advent Eco PC.
The disk he was given with Works on ACTUALLY HAD AN INSTALLATION OF XP PRO and was a legit printed cd with Works 9 officially printed on it. Situation now is that it is stuck half way through installing XP on Partition 3 because it can't find some files on the CD. There are 3 sectors - 1 is recovery for Vista - 2 is 1.5Gb with System on it - 3 is a large partition which still has remnants of the previous Vista installation, which XP is trying to install on. In the instructions, it says to perform recovery with Vista, type the F8 key on startup, which will bring up the window with "Repair Computer" Sadly it now only brings up the screen with Safe Mode etc Question - how do we get back to reinstalling Vista with no DVDs - the recovery is on Partition 1 Thanks |

I'm not real sure how that system works, never dealt with one. But, when you boot up, try the F1 key, if that doesn't work try the F12 key, and F10 if that doesn't work. See if one of these will get you into the Recovery menu. You should get a menu dedicated to the Recovery Options. Just have to find the right key.
