Why is the network feature so bad

On my computer with vista I can't see any computers on my network other than the one i'm on and the other one that is running vista. They are all on the same workgroup. Also when I try to access my network from a xp or 2000 pro based computer it says the workgroup is not accessable. What is the problem?

go into your network and sharing center and make sure you have the proper settings turned on under sharing and discovery.

With media sharing nothing happens and with password now I have to type in a user and pass to access my vista computers. I still can't see the 2 xp computers or the 2k computer.

Ok, I shut down my computer with server 2003 on it because it has a domain instead of a workgroup and now I can see all of the computers but I still can't browse them or transfer files.
