Why do I have to format my hard drive?
So I wanna install Vista Ultimate which I just bought to my local disc E. I want to have it so I can choose from either Vista or XP at startup.
But I have files on drive E. I want to move them to the F drive. My question is why do I have to format drive E if it's already empty once I move the files to drive F, and what does formatting do? Thanks. |

Your hd must be clean before installing a new os, so you have to format it.
Formatting deletes all data from hd (if you simply delete data, it can be recovered). |
