Question XP Crashed...

Hi everyone,just got back on line,My computer crash the other day,having to reinstal everything,my question here is,the computer company(ABS) is going to replace the hard drive,but they want me to send them the old one first,should i be a little worried about infromation that might be on that hard drive?.Right now im using a new hard drive i bought at Radio shack,Im thing with the new replacement ill have two hard drives in me computer.

I think I would install it as a slave and format it first.

I agree with the previous message. If you are able to, do a reformat. You never know where the drive will end up. It could be resold as seconds.

thanks for the quick reply,the tech guy over the phone said the hard drive was no go anymore,it would not boot up.IM going to read up on this.Like I mention I lost all my pis and music all with some progams,maybe I can get them back? Do you think I can install it as a slave drive and get my info back?now that I got the conputer runnning ?

Hi,

Do you want to try to save the data or wipe it completely so that there is little chance to recover the data?


Just because a drive won't boot it doesn't mean that it is totally gone.
You can add it as a slave then use Windows Explorer to copy over the data.
or if the drive is corrupt then try http://www.handyrecovery.com


After that, if you still want to wipe it then I would suggest downloading the HDD Manufacturers Disk Tools and performing a Write Zero or Low-Level Format.

OK try HandyRecovery,but it cant seem to find anything ,so i try to reformate,and the the computer slows down,and freezes up....any thing els I can try?

Still trying to get my info and pics off my old hard drive,any more things i can try?

You have formatted the drive that had the pics on?

It would be hard to get the data now.

well I could not get anything to happen as far as finding any pics and info on that hard drive,so I tried to format,when I do the computer almost frezzes up,and I have to shut down by unpluging the computer.Ill try Studio data recovery.....
