Notification area missing and some icon changed

I got this problem on my HP mini laptop OS: Windows 7. There's no usual notification where we can see the normal win7 have ^ sign at the bottom right corner, but my laptop doesn't. Some programs also changed I don't know why. I can't open Internet Explorer,Mozilla,.. because everytime I open it, it goes to windows media player automatically and it says 'Windows Media Player encountered a problem while downloading the file'. I hope you can help me.

Hi Harris. Your user profile may have corrupted. Try creating a new account with Admin permissions and log on to it. Do you still have the same problems?
