computer running slow

Hi,
we just started having problems with computer running extremely slow.
We upgraded to ATT high speed, my wife downloaded virus protection and now system is all screwed up. It takes forever to do anything on the internet.
Please help!

Have you backed up your HD? Then you can wipe the HD clean, reinstall the operating system and put all your programs back before this disaster happened.

Of course, there are programs that deal with this kind of mess, I can't name any though. I used Norton once and it rearranged a messed up HD ok, although its such a bloated program that it slowed down my system quite a bit.

What did you get from ATT (DSL or what)?

Did they give you a disk (CD) to install software?

What do you have for a system?
