Screen problems
I have an old, old Acer laptop running with a Celeron chip. At the moment, I have Linux Mint installed, but that is not the issue.
The difficulty is that about 20% of the screen -- the whole right side -- stays black. The OS adjusted the graphics to the reduced size, so I'm not losing anything that I should be seeing, but it is still an annoyance as it kind of limits the usefulness to a single app, Pythios (which is terrific as it allows me to use ******* with no commercials). I recall attaching a second monitor, which worked fine, but obviously limits its ability to travel. I didn't notice anything obvious in the Bios that would be responsible. The display settings did not seem to address this. Is it age? Did I miss something in the Bios or in the settings? Thanks. |

Total Noob,
Unless you have some old software that will only run on this old Laptop. Backup everything off the HDD to another external HDD. Then get a new Laptop to install your programs from the backup on to it. But since your asking....... First: Do the backup first on the HDD. Next: Look for a U-Tube video on disassembly of your model Laptop. If your lucky, it will be a loose cable, or damaged cable for the Display. {You can probably find a replacement cable off of E-bay} If not that, then it will be the display itself is damaged. Replacement Displays for most Laptops are not cheap. Check E-bay, some parts can be found there. Just be careful with the dealers. At least try for one that is reputable, and has a return policy if the part is defective, or they shipped you the wrong part. Hey, you may luck out, and it is just the display cable that came loose.
