Question cant't load ubuntu 8.04 completly

I tried booting UBUNTU 8.04 toady I get the loading,then "starting up",the HD light blinks several times the screen is blank but not off. and then the HD light comes on and stays on. I have Ubuntu on another backup drive tried that no problems any suggestions?

I think your "grub" bootloader may need some attention but I am not able to give you any pointers. I would grab any data that you need in case you have a major problem with the o/s.

Tried it. It say it was successful but when I tried restarting same thing happened it "passes" the point where it checks the floppy drive (drive light goes on then out) HD light flickers then stays on and sits there

It is looking like a bad sector on the h/drive

Fsck is one way but grub needs to be working.. How about you grab your data and try re-installing??

You can run it from a Live CD, which they say is the best way since the Hard drive isn't mounted. Here is step by step on how to do this from the abuntu forums. Run Fsck from live CD

Wink cant't load ubuntu 8.04 completly

OK ran fan fsck "sudo e2fsck -C0 -p -f -v /dev/sda1" everything fine now Except
minor problem I no longeg get the ubuntu logo and file chk when I boot.
I get loading Grub.... then Starting Up...
then the screen goes dark (not off) until I get the logon screen
