Cannot access Microsoft Sites ???

Hi there, i need some help please if anyone has any ideas. I have Windows XP and Aol 9.0 VR. I have had this ongoing problem for a while now and cannot seem to solve it. I cannot access any Microsoft sites, including updates etc, hotmail, messenger (i get error code 80048820 along with the extended error code 80048439). Windows defender cannot update either. I have done several things that Microsoft helpdesk advised but because it did not work i think they have lost their patience and gave up on me. I have switched the firewall off. Internet Explorer (7) browser rarely works with any Microsoft sites, even the help ones. Any ideas would be appreciated, i am pulling my hair out here! Thanks in advance X X

If I have the same problem, appear to be offline and cannot connect with
Windows Exployer and have tried Firefox and it will come up with no problem- but my Norton 2008 has a problem that it can't fix without Windows Exployer. What should I do to get this help?? Thanks Ladybug43

Hi lilylee,

Lets try to access one of MS's sites and get that working, then hopefully all them will work.

First in a command window, run ipconfig/all and post all its output back here.

Then lets try getting to MS's support site in the browser.

Open your browser and try getting to http://support.microsoft.com
If that doesn't work try http://207.46.248.248 This is the IP address of the above site.

What firewall/security software are you running?
How are you connecting to the internet (modem, router, dial-up modem)?

Hi zip and thanks for the help. I tried both of these in IE 7 but no luck, it just says page cannot be displayed. http://support.microsoft.com and http://207.46.248.248.

The router is a Belkin. I have AVG for anti virus and spyware. Windows Firewal which i have tried switching off. I have just removed Norton, Windows Defender and AOL security packages as i thought they might be conflicting.

I am tring to run ipconfig/all but it says Windows cannot find the file and maybe i have typed the name wrong?

Thanks again

Can you run 'tracert www.microsoft.com' in a command window and post the output back here?

Have you had any computer viruses lately?
For completeness can you check the data on the computer again?

Hi Zip,
Sorry not quite sure what you mean, if i click on your link to Microsoft it will open their website in my aol browser, but if i click on the update it wont have none of it. The screen asks for custom or express, i click express and it says cheking your computer - thats it, it wont never go any further than that. Now if i copy and paste the link into IE7 i get nothing, the page wont even load. As for viruses, i dont think i have had any, i had loads of virus software on here, but now only have AVG incase it clashes. Sorry how do i check the data ;(

Thanks Lots Lily
