My computer boots up but monitor goes blank.

I have Windows 7 on my laptop. I was trying to change my screen resolution. I right clicked on my desktop and chose "Graphics Options". I clicked on there and if memory serves me correctly, I chose "send to monitor" or something similar. As soon as I chose this, my monitor went completely blank and I am not able to restore it. The computer boots up properly and allows you to F2 or F12 to escape set up but after playing around in there I am still having the same problem. When I shut down the computer and restart it, it tells me that Windows didn't shut down properly and gives me the various options to restart. The only option that seems to work is the safe mode start up but when it completes it comes to a dos prompt and I am not sure what to type in there. I have a Toshiba laptop. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Michelle

Hi Michelle, if a software command caused the issue, you should be able to reverse it running System Restore.

Reboot into Safe Mode with a Command Prompt again and when you see the prompt, type:

rstrui.exe

and hit Enter on your keyboard. System Restore will start and you should be able to revert back to a date before you made the change.
