Cannot install AVG 8.0.1 Free Edtion...Help!

Hello there

I've been trying to install AVG 8.0.1 build free edition but I always encountered an error and installation fails. Something to do with the registry I think.

Here's the error msg that AVG installer gave me:


Local machine: installation failed
Installation:
Error: Action failed for registry key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows: creating registry key....
Error 0x80070005


Can anyone help me? I was using AVG 7.5 Free Edition and uninstalled it as per instructed when I tried to install AVG 8 but with the error, now I end up with no AVG 7.5 and no AVG 8 either. No anti-virus protection!

Forget AVG 8.0 - too many problems.

Try:
- Avira free antivirus: http://www.free-av.com/en/download/index.html
or
- Avast! free antivirus: http://filehippo.com/download_avast_antivirus/

Ok...but I would like to know what's wrong with my computer here. Cause it installed fine on my desktop PC and this problem happens on my laptop.

I'm hoping to clear the errors involved

There is nothing wrong with your computer. AVG is having problems.
There are hundreds posts out there about problems like yours, and bunch of others.
AVG will install, and run fine on some computers, but won't on others.
After two days of trying, I was never able to install AVG on my Vista (I was getting very same error), switched to Avast.
After two days of trying, I was able to install AVG on my XP, but I tried so hard only because it's my test computer, and I wanted to know what's going on.
Believe me, forget about AVG, at least for now.
