I've had network adapters "disappear" several times and every time the cure was to buy and install a new one. They're easy enough to replace with a USB network adapter.
They're basically circuit boards and circuit boards do just go bad sometimes although I know I lost at least two to lightning strikes coming through the phone lines. |

Reading some reviews of the mobo, I would suggest you have done well to get 8 years out of the on-board NIC... but before shelling out $ to add a new nic (internal PCI or USB) I would try disabling the onboard in the BIOS, boot to windows and delete any mention of it in Device manager then reboot.
Reboot again and re-enable the NIC in the BIOS and see if Device manager re-detects the NIC. p.s. You only need to post your subject once - I removed the duplicate topic in the Networking forum. |

As you boot your system, press DEL key when prompted to enter BIOS set-up.
The on-board NIC should be listed under Integrated Peripherals. |

In addition to the above I believe that motherboard uses the Realtek network card. Drivers are here:

If Smury's suggestions don't work, I would swap out the Ethernet cable. These are critical but very cheap "devices" and are easily damaged by too many yanks and trip overs. A bad cable can, in some cases, render the NIC unusable. And I have a old 4-port router that disabled the NIC of any computer plugged into port 4. No problems with ports 1 - 3. So try a different router port with your new cable too.
If still not good, check your motherboard. Even many older boards had two network ports. Beyond that, then I agree to adding a new card. Adding a new PCI network card is easy and does not take up a USB port. |
