Roommate's dog chewed up laptop adapter, now laptop will not turn on

A few weeks ago my roommate's new puppy chewed up the cord of my laptop adapter. I tried to turn on my laptop after that happened, but it was dead and nothing would show up when I pushed the power button. I figured that it must be because of the chewed up adapter cord so I ordered a new one on ebay. Well, I just received the new adapter today but my laptop still will not turn on.

So I want to know: Could this be due from the puppy chewing on the adapter or is it another problem? If not, then what could be the problem with my laptop? I had a similar problem last year with my monitor when stopped working after there was a power outage, which is why I suspect that this problem might've been caused by the puppy. Any thoughts?

If the laptop was plugged in at the time of chewing, it's quite possible when the cord was chewed through, it caused a short and shorted your laptop motherboard.

Well, buy a new motherboard but they can cost as much as the laptop did. Is it under warranty still?
