*RANT* Is it me, or is there something really wrong with Subscription Services?

*RANT Mode On*
I've been using ZoneAlarm For many years now.
I have been getting 1 year subscriptions from them.
But instead of getting a price break for renewing my subscription with them.
I get hit with the full price.
The same as buying a new version of ZoneAlarm from them.

Thus, to avoid paying the full price.
I cancel the old subscription when the 1 year is up.
Go to a site where I can purchase the latest version, at half the price, or more from them.
Install it, and I've got another year subscription for it.
{Or more like just putting in the new KEY that came with it in.}

You would think CheckPoint would want to make it so their current customer's that are using they're software.
Would get some kind of price break for continuing to stay with their product?

Also, I find it strange that I have to hunt down these deals on some website other than ZoneAlarm's.
And find that these deals are actually available from CheckPoint.
{They just don't make them readily known.}
*RANT Mode Off*

I think you've been taken for a ride.

I used ZoneAlarm years ago, but it hardy seems necessary now with the built in firewall in WindowsSecurity.

I'm sorry,
I was just using ZoneAlarm as just one example.

*Mini RANT*
I'm still running Windows 7, because I don't like how Win 10 forces on you all their *Crap* when you install it.
Then makes it a pain to remove said *Crap*, or just shut it off.
And even when I shut it off, when the monthly software Patch\Update comes in, it turns the stuff back on.
*Mini RANT*

But ZoneAlarm has worked very well for me.
Stopping attacks, and keeping most spyware off my system.
But if there is one thing I would change about it.
It would be the Control Console.
Cleaning out old settings in it can take up a lot of time.
And in some cases, only resetting ZoneAlarm back to it's Default Settings.
Will clear out bad, or corrupted settings in the Control Console.

I was not aware that zone alarm was a pay service. I thought I used it years ago for free.

I am forced to agree with your Windows rant. I kept Win 7 for the same reasons..

years ago when I paid for antivirus software, a year or two would be upgrade pricing then it would be full price. That is just the way things work

OK, yes it seems these companies have little regard for their loyal supporters.

One thing that annoys me is the companies who include unnecessary software on new computers, that requires the new owner to register, free for the first year then hefty annual fees from then on.

Dell are prime offenders, laptop and desktop machines with Win10 and a proprietary AV. The AV that comes with Win10 is sufficient, very good in fact. Unfortunately many who buy do not know this, they don't know how to uninstall the proprietary AV and think they need to pay an annual subscription.

The ZoneAlarm Fire Wall is still free.
The other versions are not.

But you can down load, and install anyone of the paid versions.
Then have 30 days to check it out.
After that, you are given the option of buying the subscription.
If you don't, it locks off everything but the fire wall.

I have found that this selling tactic of Anti-Virus/Spyware software is wide spread.
But there are still a few that rely on donations, rather than a subscription based service.
But even free software like "Spy-Bot", and others have started using subscription based services to keep going.
