Yes, those are the drivers you need - they aren't much newer than the ones you already have but they could be DX9c compatible so they may help.

The latest...

Well, I updated the sound drivers...still crashes.

Then using the config.exe file in the FEAR folder from my C: drive, I tried playing it without music...still crashes. Then I tried turning off ALL sound...still crashes. SIGH. What a waste! This is junk! Each time, I can play a varied number of minutes, then the game just goes to a black screen and crashes. The last time though, with all sound turned off, it crashed to a blank blue screen and caused the PC to restart.

I don't know what much else to do. I may just have to accept that I will need to upgrade my graphics and sound cards or not play the game at all.

I don't know if you can suggest anything further, but thought you would like to know the latest with my struggles.

Confirmation

Yes, I have version 1.03. I uninstalled and reinstalle the game last night from scratch...applying the patch after the installation. Still crashes after a while of playing. I think I should look into getting a new graphics and/or sound card. Can you or anyone recommend some good, yet decently priced ones?

Thanks for the help!

Hello and welcome tazz236
Amd 3500 1.5ghz

That clock speed is:
1) too slow for FEAR - hence your crashing
2) too slow for that CPU - it seems to be underclocked - unless it's a Semperon.

Can you tell us the make and model of your motherboard and exactly what sort of AMD CPU it is.

If it's a Semperon, you can just about forget about this wrking with FEAR and we'll need to see if your motherboard supports a REAL processor that will run the game.

Even for a Sempron that is low. All the 3500+ series are 2.2ghz (Sempron, Athalon Venice, & Clawhammer.

Fear correction to my computer stats

Smurfy
I made a mistake on the stats of my computer.
It is an AMD 64 3500 2.2ghz with 2 gigs of ram
The corsair xms kind, that is recomended for overclocking.
Now, maybe this can get my question straightended out because of my goof up with the stats.
