Post Boot problem - won't excute boot disks from CD or floppy

Sorry for the duplication - I originally posted this in response to another person's similar posting, but mine appears to be lost in that thread.
I have a similar problem. I have an IBM600x laptop that errored during a reinstall of Windows 98 after formatting the hard drive using the OEM Recovery CD. Now the computer will not boot from the same Recovery CD or any boot disk in the floppy drive. I even tried swapping the hard drive into another 600x laptop to try to install the OS. It reads from the CD, then the floppy as setup in the BIOS, but it won't run the actual programs on the disks. Am I hosed?

Thanks for any help!!

What error message(s) do you get when trying to boot from the floppy (or CD)? Make sure that the BIOS is set to boot from the appropriate device.
