Vista boot problems, partition problems

Ok
I've been messing around with partitions and now it seems I cant boot into Vista, Unmountable boot volume
also my Vista drive i see in XP (dual boot) is unformatted

I used to have a 40GB + 20GB + 20GB partitions
40GB for XP
20 for Vista
and 20GB for storing stuff
all in that order on the drive

I used Ubuntu 7.04 boot cd and gnome partition manager
then shrunk the storage drive(to 10GB) to see if it might delete all my files (test), it didn't so i went ahead and shrunk the XP partition to 20GB
but then i found out i cant increase the Vista partition... so I went back and increased the XP partition to 40GB and restored the storage partition to 20GB

and now Vista doesnt load
XP detects its own partition as 20GB not 40GB, Vista Partition as unformatted and the
storage partition as 10GB

Ubuntu sees it as 40 + 20 + 20
but the free space in the drive is screwed
XP says there is 18GB of files in the 40GB partition Ubuntu says there is 34GB or something
the Vista partition's free space is ok according to Ubuntu
the Storage partition says there is 11GBof files while XP says there is 3GB, XP has the correct amount

now I am not sure what to do

Fortunately Ubuntu can see all my files so i can back up and reinstall
but the uni semester isnt over and i dont want to do that yet

all partitions are NTFS

the XP partition is primary the Vista and Storage are Logical

The hard drive manufacturer will have a test utility, run it on your hard drive.
