windows xp disk usage/new hp pavillion notebook

Just got a new laptop, hp pavillion dv2000. Just had a question. It came with a 120 Gig hard drive and 20g of it was full right out of the box. Why is it coming with so much junk already on the drive? Vongo, media programs, movee makers, etc etc. And i've googled but can't find it, how much space does you average windows xp install consume? Anyway just wondered if that was unusual to have already so much storage space taken up.

Howdy:

It isn't Windows that is taking up all the room, it is all the extra's HP puts in their systems (sort of paid advertising for companies and their programs so HP can keep their costs down)..

thanks murray. So this isn't uncommon? I tried uninstalling some of the extras but doesn't seem to make a very big dent as far as freeing up some space. I mean 20Gigs is a significant amount, I thougth maybe something was wrong with my machine.

its very common, I recently purchased two hps and spent hours deleting junk. Also you gotta remember that hp has placed a partition on your drive to store a restore so you can restore your computer to factory settings if needed.
