hard drive space

I have installed a new hard drive on a PC and set the old drive as master and the new drive as slave. The PC sees the new drive but I can't get the old drive to read the space from the new drive. I set it as an extended partition, but it still will not allow c:/ to use the space of the new drive.

Please inform me what to do in a case like this.

An extended partition is used to overcome the 4 partition
limit for a single drive.
It does not extend the partition from one drive to another.
You need to make it a primary partition and format it,
so it can be used as a stand alone drive or get a RAID
controller and setup RAID 0 if you want to combine the drives
into one big drive space.

Is there a way that I can do this and install an OS on the newly partioned and formatted drive and transfer all the files off of the old drive onto the new one without disconnecting the drives?

If you bought a retail drive,you should have gotten some software
that you can use to copy the old drive to the new one.
If it's not retail,you can download it from the manufacturers web site.
After it's copied,change the new drive to master and the old one
to slave.
Check to make sure it works,then you can format the old drive
and use it for storage.
