Black Screen of Death

Not exactly,

My old computer will not output video to the monitor on boot. When i turn it on there are no beeps or any sign of malfunction, only the standby yellow light on the monitor stays, it doesnt change to green like with a normal computer.

Its onboard graphics though, but all the fans spin and everything.

If any more info is needed just ask, i really have no clue whats wrong, other than a possibly dead graphics chip.

Sounds like power supply is not sending volts to the motherboard. If this is an old, backup system, it might not be cost-effective to replace.

It is an old system, however i was going to use it as a Periminant BT box.

I dont understand how it could be a psu problem though, the mobo led's come on, hdd spins, cd rom works. The only problem is no video output.

PSUs have different volt outputs for different apps. If the supply for fans, hdds and cd drives are working, doesn't mean volts are getting to the board.

Do you have a cheap vid card you can put in? That's if your board has a slot for AGP or PCI if you have a PCI vid card.

No beeps is the key. You should always get that one beep that says everything is working right.
