Power options not working

Hi there just got a new Samsung laptop intel core 17.

My power options are set to dim display after 1 minute and turn of display 1 minute and sleep computer never on the Balance power plan.

My computer will not dim it just stays on desktop when I walk out of the room and come back. Even screen saver will not activated it self.

Help please

Not knowing the model does it have an ambient light sensor, to automatically dim it? If so it will only work on battery power.

Do you have Samsung Easy Display Manager installed?

Samsung Series 5 550P 17.3" Laptop - Silver (Intel Core i7-3630QM / 1TB HDD / 8GB RAM / Windows 8) that is the model, and I don't think I have the easy display manager because when I search it nothing comes up

it happens when my laptop comes out of sleep I noticed the most but if I restart it then I find my power options go back to normal and start working.

I only run it with the cord I haven't installed the battery yet that's in the box still....I called tech support and they said I would have to reinstall the OS which I do not want to go through its still new and I haven't used it that much.

Try:

Press Ctrl+ Tab will show the Windows 8 version of All Programs, see if there is Samsung listed, under Samsung look for Fast Start, turn "Off"

or

Press Windows Key then right click on a black area of the Start Screen you should see bottom right "All Apps"

no Samsung listed anywhere...and its doing it again I left my computer on for an hour only to come back to see my desktop, screen saver or my power options to dim the screen did nothing.

Again I put my computer to sleep last night and woke it this morning.

okay thanks will do....ive basically narrowed it down it does only happen each i time bring my laptop from sleepmode....I changed my power setting of when closing lid to do nothing.

this way I don't break any tasks or downloads but the light won't bother me when I go to sleep.
