Media Player on XP help!

Hi all,

I upgraded from Windows98 to Windows XP recently and have had some trouble with videos in Media Player! When I play certain ones it is fine but on others it will only play sound and you cant see anything!

Is there anyone that knows what this problem might be?

Cheers,

Lee

which version of xp and what version of media player. Also what type of videos?
finally tell about your system, cpu, ram, harddrive size and free space available.

In general winxp will need a lot more ram than win98, if you add winxp and did not upgrade your ram, you will have problems with videos

Standard version of XP and the Media player version that came with that version of XP.

Also I know it's not a system problem my system is way above the requirements for XP.

Videos are Windows Media Audio/Video file type.

Any ideas?

Look renegade600 i've answered the questions that are relevant!

Some files play fine and some dont but they are both the same type of file so I very much doubt CPU, Ram or any other hardware is going to be causing this, geeez!

Anyone else?

Well sainty43 take it easy. You should answer all the questions in order to better understand your problem. As well, as where are these files coming from? i assume peer-2-peer? Please tell where they're from.

These files are from various places, such as youtube, or sent to me from a friend via e-mail etc.

They all worked fine on Windows98 so Im wondering if its a problem with XP?

Thanks

you need to answer the questions. You do not know whats relevant or even why they are being asked. You are the one asking for help so you gotta help us to help you. Winxp is a completely different operating system than win98.

We need to know what version of media player you are using, we need to know about your system - I need to add what video card are you using in addition to the other info I asked for. We also have to know exactly what you are playing not where you got it.

There are reasons why they are being asked and its not to find out if your system will support winxp.
