System File Checker.

Windows xp

Whilst running systen file checker (sfc /scannow) is the blue bar supposed to reach the end before it finishes??

Yes it should. Why did it say finished before the bar got to the end?

It didnt say it had finished, ie a window said you have completed, after about 75% of the way along the SFC window just disappeared and that was it.
What is meant to happen as I have done this on other pcs and never seen an acknowledgement window saying done.

It's hard to say what happen from your info.. Try running it from the drive properties.. Double click my computer/right click on the drive you want to check/properties/tools tab/click check this drive for errors..

Just a note.
That will run checkdisk,not sfc.

Checkdisc is unable to work and asks to be done on a restart but on restart it says cant open volume for direct access.
Now it trys to checkdisc on every start up and says the same but it still boots after.

If you have a windows xp cd Boot up with it in the drive, and go to the Recovery Console. Type .. chkdsk /r

See if it will run from there.. You may need to go into Bios & make sure your CD drive is first in the boot order
