yard sale

Hey all,
I bought an old Dell tower with XP Pro and I would like to know how to disable the log on window as it contains the previous owner user name and password. ofcourse I can not contact the person that sold it because they no longer live there. I am no techy so I could use some help. Thanks

It is done in "User Accounts" in the Control Panel.

Howdy and welcome to CTH:

Did you get the Dell cd's with the system?

If so, I would suggest a complete wipe and re-install. That would clean out everything including anything the previous owner left in there.

Nope, the daughter ran off to college with a new laptop a year ago and they had no clue about the PC. It's an old guy with a 533 fsb and 256 ram but i got it to expand for my kids to play games on. Is it possible to get it wiped clean and re-started?

Not without the cd's. Unless you want to go out and purchase your own copy of XP for that system.

Before I went and did that, I would head over to the Dell website to make sure they still had the drivers for that system available.
