Lost Files

Hey all,

I was working in Photosuite Platinum Home DVD Builder...this requires you to run your display settings at 1024 x 768 pixels....when I returned to 800x600
something went wrong and I lost all my photo files(3000), My Documents, and email address books and saved emails...

I tried to restore (i use XP)...no luck...did a disc check.....used a file recovery program...all with no luck

All my other Software programs are running normally...and I scanned for Viruses...I use Mcafee...also used Symantec online and Pandas online...all with nothing found....

Can anyone offer me any suggestions...or am I just Screwed....

Thanx all......Jdsx5

What exactly "went wrong" when you returned to that resolution? Did you get any error messages? Did the PC reboot/shutdown by itself?

Is it possible your desktop shortcuts are simply placed off screen? Did you actually check in My Computer to see if your files are still there?

Have a look in C:\Documents and Settings\<your username>\Desktop. The shortcuts you used to have on the desktop; are they in that folder?

It's not possible for a resolution change to delete any files, let alone to seek out ONLY your personal files. Either the files are there, but the resolution change has hidden them from the desktop (they should show up in My Computer though, did you check the right folders?); or, something else caused the problem (maybe the DVD software moved or deleted them, or something malicious that wasn't picked up by the scans).

Download and run HijackThis, and post the log it generates into the Cyber Safety forum.
