Here is the Dell Support troubleshooting guide.
https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/e...shooting-guide

Note:
Check to see if there are new drivers for the Track pad, and Stick pointer.
Microsoft recently did a update, and people have been reporting that afterward,
their Track pad or Stick pointer was acting erradically, until they upgrade the drivers.

I see Dell 7440, so installing it on W11 won't have many errors anymore.

It seems like you are experiencing issues with the trackpad and point stick on your Dell 7440 laptop. Here are a few suggestions to try and troubleshoot the problem:

Update drivers: Make sure you have the latest drivers installed for the trackpad and point stick. Visit Dell's official support website, enter your laptop's model number, and download and install any available driver updates for the input devices.

Check device settings: Open the Windows Settings, go to the "Devices" section, and select "Touchpad" or "Mouse." Review the settings and ensure that the trackpad and point stick are enabled and configured correctly. You may also try adjusting sensitivity settings to see if it makes a difference.

BIOS update: Check if there are any BIOS updates available for your laptop model on Dell's support website. Sometimes, updating the system's BIOS can resolve compatibility issues and improve overall device functionality.

Hardware inspection: If the issue persists, it's possible that there could be a hardware problem with the trackpad or point stick. In such cases, it is recommended to contact Dell support or take your laptop to an authorized service center for further diagnosis and repair.

Since you mentioned that the trackpad and point stick worked fine with a Linux USB, it suggests that the issue might be related to the operating system or its drivers. Nevertheless, trying the steps above should help you determine the cause of the problem and resolve it accordingly.

It seems like you're experiencing inconsistent performance with the trackpad and point stick on your Dell 7440 laptop. Here are a few suggestions to troubleshoot the issue:

Check for driver updates: Even though you mentioned that all Dell drivers are installed, it's worth double-checking if there are any updates available specifically for the trackpad and point stick. Visit the Dell support website and enter your laptop's model number to find the latest drivers.

Restart the laptop in Safe Mode: Boot your laptop in Safe Mode to check if the trackpad and point stick work consistently in this mode. If they do, it could indicate a conflict with a third-party software or driver. Try uninstalling recently installed software or updating conflicting drivers.

Disable and enable the trackpad and point stick: Open the Device Manager on your Windows 10 Pro laptop, expand the "Mice and other pointing devices" section, and right-click on the trackpad and point stick devices. Select "Disable" and then "Enable" to reset them. Restart your laptop and see if the issue persists.

Adjust trackpad settings: Open the Windows Settings, go to the "Devices" section, and select "Touchpad." Make sure the trackpad settings are configured correctly, including sensitivity, scrolling, and gestures.

Perform a system scan: Use your antivirus software to scan your laptop for any potential malware or viruses that could be affecting the trackpad and point stick's performance.

If the issue continues after trying these steps, it might be worth contacting Dell customer support for further assistance, as there could be a hardware-related problem with the trackpad or point stick.
