CD device not ready
I recently replaced my CD-ROM drive with a CD-RW drive. Since then, when I start the computer, it stops and says, "Interface device or CD-ROM device not ready."
Then I have a choice to Abort or Retry. If I abort, the computer continues to load like normal. It has gotten really aggravating to do this every time. Can anyone help me correct this? I looked through several other posts and could not find anything like this. My OS is Win 98. Thanks |

I have the same problen with a Sony drive. It has been suggested to me that there is a conflict with my zip drive but I haven't been able to resolve it yet.

Try to set the cd-rw drive as the master drive. That fixed a bunch of problems for me.

The burner is set up as secondary master. I think the problem is that the CD-ROM is listed in the section where you can change the order in which they boot up. I can move it from first to second to third to fourth, but I cannot remove it. I hope this might explain the problem a little better.
Thanks |

Oh I see...Just put the cd-rom drive last in the boot order or atleast behind the harddrive. It shouldn't ask you then

Sorry I cannot find the manual. That is strange that you cannot disable it from checking. The last thing I would suggest is calling the motherboard manufacturer's support line if it is free.
Sorry |
