CD device not ready
I recently replaced my CD-ROM drive with a CD-RW drive. Since then, when I start the computer, it stops and says, "Interface device or CD-ROM device not ready."

Then I have a choice to Abort or Retry. If I abort, the computer continues to load like normal. It has gotten really aggravating to do this every time. Can anyone help me correct this? I looked through several other posts and could not find anything like this.

My OS is Win 98.

I have the same problen with a Sony drive. It has been suggested to me that there is a conflict with my zip drive but I haven't been able to resolve it yet.

Try to set the cd-rw drive as the master drive. That fixed a bunch of problems for me.

The burner is set up as secondary master. I think the problem is that the CD-ROM is listed in the section where you can change the order in which they boot up. I can move it from first to second to third to fourth, but I cannot remove it. I hope this might explain the problem a little better.

Oh I see...Just put the cd-rom drive last in the boot order or atleast behind the harddrive. It shouldn't ask you then

What motherboard and bios do you have?
(If you don't know Aida32 Personal System Info can tell you.)

I can't find a manufacturers website to find the manual for that...do you know where that would be?

Sorry I cannot find the manual. That is strange that you cannot disable it from checking. The last thing I would suggest is calling the motherboard manufacturer's support line if it is free.
