Question Avg (moved from Cyber Safety Forum)

Hello, I tried to review past post to make sure nobody already covered this topic:

My friend who has AVG 8.0 with windows 2000, can not get any updates.
It will not update from the AVG server.

He did not have any trouble when he had version 7.5.

has anyone else had trouble or knows what to do about it?

He uninstalled and reloaded a fresh AVG 8.0.

still it will not get any new updates.

Thank you-

Ikey

Hi ikey. AVG 8.0 has been updated to AVG 8.5 however to minimise the load on their servers, Grisoft have decided to release the update in waves. This may well be why he cant get any updates.

Why not have him uninstall AVG 8, reboot and download and install AVG 8.5 now instead of waiting for the update. He can download it here (he must have installed SP4 to run this version).

Hi AnnMarie, I can't remember if you use avg or not, but in regards to others as well, should I jump to d/l 8.5 or just stay with the 8 for now until either we can't use it or should in time but when they get the bugs {if any} out ?
Thanks

Hi theVman. Yes I do on one machine. My installation didnt update today and I am going to keep an eye on it. If there are still no more updates for the next couple of days, I will update to AVG 8.5 rather than wait but if you are getting updates, I wouldnt rush into it.

I'm getting updates so far. Usually one in the am & one at around 3pm. I'll keep a look out for any change in regards to such.
All & all I have used avg without incident for two years already. It has protected me from several sites that have been hacked with viruses. I can't believe how many ordinary regular sites & forums that are infected.

Thank You... Take Care...
