Did you run the Samsung disk diagnostic utility Greyhorne?

Links here and here (depending on series and model).

I believe its a Samsung SV1533D

So assuming I run the first download.

Tip: in case of an error occur
Following screen will be displayed.
Press any key, then below screen will be displayed
.

If you choose 'Y', all data will be removed.
If you want to do Low-level format, please back your data up before press 'Y'.

What should I do in this situation?
I can only boot to safe mode, and use a restore CD which has Win98 and bundled software on it

Hmmm, according to Samsung, a Low Level Format can not be performed outside of the factory. See here.

Backup as much data as you can before running any utility.

Ok, well I'm gonna run this thing tonight, and if an error shows up, I'll be selecting "N".
Then I'm gonna reformat, re-installing Win98, confirm its running ok, then I'll run it again, and THEN press "Y" .

Well, I realize this is now going on 3 weeks, and I must say, my Uncles patience has far exceeded what mine would.
Win98 is reinstalled, and the error is gone, however the Netscape software for his ISP needs Explorer upgraded once again to 6.0.
Obviously this becomes somewhat of a chicken before the egg ,especially since Netscape remains installed, while Explorer reigressed to 5.0.

I still have the downloaded files I originally used to upgrade Explorer months ago to 6.0, but I've since lost the instructions, and "forgot" the command, or method, of how to tell it to look at the folder, instead of wanting to update itself through the MS site.
I believe it was executed through the RUN command, but then again, that might of been how to tell it to SAVE the files, instead of install them.

Arrrgh! I simply can't remember.

Ultimately, its the innate ability to remember, the seemingly insignificant things such as this, that IMO distinguishes the truly genuine eggheads, from those individuals who forever, will merely dabble.

A sad fact I've hesitantly, come to accept.

What files do you have and where did you download them from? You can download and install a standalone version of IE6 Sp1 from here.

It was before he got Netscape service, and after Netzero,
when I had to upgrade to 6.0 without the convenience of
him having internet service.
So I downloaded the Win98 explorer files, my system running WinXP. I believe I had to run a command, so it wouldn't try to upgrade, or scan my system, but instead, only download the install files to a folder.
I then, burned the files, and took em over to my uncles and somhow, installed them.
It took me a while to find the link, that instructed me on where the Win98 download was, and how to install it.
Having lost the How-to command, I can't seem to find the site again.

But the upgrade files are still sitting in a folder on his PC, waiting to be installed.
I didn't see any that were click executable.

Is there a file called ie6setup.exe in that folder? If so, doubleclick on it and the install should start.

Thanks Ann Marie,

I must of just overlooked it the other night.

Seems to be running fine now. The winds here the other night
disrupted power and knocked the phone lines out as well, so I didn't have dial tone to get it done, but its back on now, and I hope to finish it up tonight or tomorrow.
