Sound Issues; Microphone

Sound when using microphone feeble. Same issue exists when using another microphone. Sound is OK when using a normal audio CD. Have tested the soundcard (Soundblaster Audigy 2) through diagnostics and reseating it- no visable damage to the soundcard. All software seems to be working fine. I have now got to the point where windows has been reinstalled twice but again, still having the same problem. Seem to have exausted all possibilities now. Does any of you folks have any suggestions.

If you are wondering why I am submitting so many posts, I work in a Technical Support Department and am just new. Therefore almost every problem I encounter is new. Don't worry- I am not posting all of these because I am having the problems with my own PC- It is working quiet well in fact!!

Check sound volume level for the mic in Sound Properties in Control Panel.

Did you have the Mic plugged in to the correct port?
The Mic port is boosted especially for the Mic.

You can also set more boost from the Advanced Mic properties in Volumn Control.

No have tried this as well

Mic is plugged into the correct port. The mic is working as the customer I am dealing with has actually purchased 3 altoghter thinking it was the mic at fault.
I also don't think the soundcard is at fault as all diagnostic tests have passed without any errors.

This is starting to baffle me now!!

How exactly do you mean feeble? Is it during recording, Playback, Internet Chat?

Anything else to add here folks? I'm stuck on this one. The hard drive has been formatted and OS reinstalled several times now and there is still no solution.

You could try finding different drivers online, perhaps you are loading the same corrupted drivers with each reinstall? Other than that, I would have to assume that the sound card was faulty.

I have searched for various different drivers online, installed them and the exact same problem is there.

I have a few sound cards, and when I try every one, I get the same problem. I was starting to assume a faulty PCI slot, and therefore a motherboard replacement, but have now swapped the card into a spare PCI slot and am getting the same issue.

I am really at the end of my tether now as I need to reach a solution to this one.

The Recording settings are seperate to Volume. Have you checked the Recording settings in Volume Control? You can get to them from Options>Properties>Recording
