2. When explaining your problem please be as thorough as you can, there is never too much information provided.

* What doesn't work - CPU
* What does work - Motherboard, ram, heatsink, in pretty good shape actually, did a bios update recently without any problems at all, but
* What have you tried
recently i was trying to repair another type of motherboard with the same socket type so i used the cpu out of the packard bell, and it fryed the CPU and so I have tried a Socket 7 Intel Pentium w/ MMX tech. with the packard bell with no success.

My main concern: what type of cpu it was, and if i can get another for cheap. thanks!

Does the motherboard look like this?

http://www.uktsupport.co.uk/pb/mb/810.htm

I believe Packard Bell used several different motherboards in that system.

A940-TWR = PB68x series, there are 4 variants: 680, 682,683,685
All are OEM variations of the Intel NV430VX (Orlando). The motherboard should have a marking on it giving you the model, may be on the bottom, or it is stamped on. Should be a Intel board.

yeah, thanks for the reply, but it does not look like that, it does not have a USB on the back of the board, however it looks similar the layout of the board, the back is like this:
VGA----yellow video recorder pic i think its the line in----a ps2 for something not sure, but its a white ps2 port, ----some space----mouse----keyboard----parallel port----serial port

again so that's like this:
VGA---line in---ps2 port-----panel space(space in the panel)-----ps2 ports(mouse then keyboard)---parallel port----serial port.

"The motherboard should have a marking on it giving you the model, may be on the bottom, or it is stamped on. Should be a Intel board"

Did you look to see if the model was stamped anywhere on the board?

"Some motherboards have a voltage regulator next to the CPU socket. These revisions can accommodate a regular Intel Pentium processor with MMX technology. To install the MMX processor use the jumper settings from the table above. The motherboard will automatically recognise the MMX processor and adjust the processor voltage. If the motherboard does not come with a voltage regulator on board, the system does not support the MMX processor!" - from http://www.uktsupport.co.uk/pb/mb/682.htm now i have a CPU for this socket with MMX tech, does my board support this theory and have a voltage regulator?
