DVD won't read or write DVDs

hi guys..I just found this forum by doin' a google search for my DVD/CD drive.. here are my specs.

Inspiron 1501

Windows Version Microsoft Windows XP Professional

CD/Optical Drives
Drive Type
D: PIONEER DVD+-RW DR-K17Y

It will read regular cd's...burn cd-rs. but it will not burn dvds nor will it read them anymore. I cleaned the lense using a lenses cleaner dvd. I have upgraded the Firmware and still nothing. Any help would be appericated.

go to the device manager in your control panel, find your drive and click on it. Does it say working properly?

I'm going to try updating my software to see if that helps. if not..I'll jus go out and buy an external for burning purposes only.
