sluggish browser

I am not sure if it is just the new IE but ever since I installed it, I have been getting loads of errors and my pages load way more slowly than before. I don't have this problem with mozilla. When I am in the middle of wroking my IE page closes down for whatever reason. I am soooo frustrated at this. I ran a hijackthis just in case. I have also done virus scan and ad-aware. Thanks so much!

Hi pepita_red. I would suspect one of your add-ons is causing the problem and if I had to guess, either Neopets or Yahoo could be the culprit.

Try this, close IE and go to Start > Run and type:

iexplore.exe -extoff

and ok. You will get a message saying that IE is running without add-ons. Is IE still slow and are you still getting error messages?

ok, so basically I have to type in Yahoo everytime I log into my browser rather than have it set to be my home page. I ask this b/c I did as you said above and now my homepage(yahoo) is gone and it won't let me set it to my homepage. I never had this problem until I installed IE7. What can I do besides type in yahoo everytime I want to browse? Thank you

ok, I didn't answer b/c I thought it was a bit premature to respond to something I JUST did. I didnt get the errors everytime I used the browser, nor did I have sluggishness everytime, though often enough for concern. So far I would say it is a bit better. Still a small amount of hesitation when loading pages, but somewhat better. I haven't gotten an error yet but then again, I really didn't use my computer much after I applied your method. It was a bit late here in the US. I am having windows appear to pop up on my toolbar and dissappear just as soon. Like something wants to open but there isnt anything there.

If the problem was caused by an add-on, you would have noticed a difference immediately.

I was under the impression that your problem was consistent but this doesnt seem to be the case. Unfortunately, random issues are very difficult to diagnose. Perhaps the best idea is to post the full error message in this thread, the next time this happens.
