Help with DDR2 PC4200 Ram
I recently bought a gateway computer, that supposedly had 512mb of ram in it. But when I booted the computer up, it recognized 384mb and not 512.
Then I opened my baby up to find that there is in fact 512mb installed but its just not recognized the whole extent of the memory. Im really confused, is my computer running on 512 or 384?!?!? and is there anything I can do to resolve this problem. |

Welcome to CTH, Ethan3043
Could you post the your gateway model #, if your using the intergrated/onboard video it is using up to 128 mb of memory and its called Shared Memory. 512mb - 128mb =384mb memory for the computer Add more memory = less expensive or Add a video card = $$$$ Last edited by sho-dan; September 22nd, 2006 at 06:41 PM. |

Howdy and welcome to CTH:
Odds are you have an integrated video card and it is using 128megs of ram for itself.. You really do have 512megs installed but 128 of it is reserved for your video card.. Some BIOS' allow you to reduce or increase the amount of on-board ram dedicated to video so you could check there if you want !! Murray |
