Computer reboot when recording audio

Whenever I try to record streaming audio (have tried 3 different programs), my computer restarts. Upon reboot, sometimes I get the "Windows has encountered a serious error..." message. I report the problem and it says it was caused by an unknown device driver. How can I fix this? Thanks for ANY help.
