Red face old packard bell PC, won't take Me...

I have an old Packard Bell PC, 386, which came with Windows 95. I added a newly wiped, larger hard drive, and wanted to install Me on it, but during install, it says I cannot install Me on this computer. I just want a "homework" PC for my kids, without spending alot of money. I have upgrade my PC with larger hard drives, new/faster CDRW and DVDRW drives, and XP Proffesional, so I have some experience...
I also tried to install 98, but I had the same message...that I could not install this OS on this PC.
I have not tried to install XP, because I am afraid the 386 processor will not be able to handle it...
any suggestions??
Thank you

you need a new computer, as far as I know, there is no way to install the newer operating systems on your computer. Win98 requires 16 megs of ram, 90mhz cpu and 260 megs of harddrive space.
