Are all harddrives the same?

I was wanting to swap labtop harddrives and I was wondering if all labtop harddrives are universal? the two labtops i am working with is a compaq presario 1200 and a dell inspiron 8100... Anybody know the answer? or know where I can find a website that I can search for the correct hard drives for each and compare myself?

Well it depends really, I dont think theres a real problem, but I've never installed laptop hard drives before. I think there may be some difference, but I don't think they vary that much, unless it's Mac to Pc, but I'm not sure..

Take them both out and have a looksee, theoretically, if they have the right number of pins for the cable, it should be fine.

Laptop harddrives are the same, no matter which laptop harddrive you buy. All of them are 2.5" IDE.
