Burns to Cd and makes it read only

I am working with a new Dell E510 Windows XP Pro and Lotus123. I want to burn my Lotus files to a CD-RW and take them home to work on them but when I burn the files to Cd-rw it makes them Read Only and I cannot modify them at home. Is there a setting I need to adjust. The file is not read only until it gets written to CD.

Files on CDs are all Read Only. CD-RWs don't work like floppies. That is, you can't edit one file on a CD-RW and save those changes back to the CD without the proper packet-writing software.

If you don't have that software installed, you can save the changed file to the hard drive and then burn it to CD.

Copy the file back to your hard drive, then right-click the file, select Properties, and clear check next to Read-only. Now you can edit the file.

What you need is a USB drive (key drive, pen drive). They're as cheap as chips and really easy to use...

Sounds like you're burning the RW same as a CD-R.

You need to format the RW first. (I think Dells have "Sonic DLA" to do it?) Otherwise do what Cheryl said.
