Mouse Lag

Hi Guys,
Bought a HP Desktop Pc a few months ago running Windows 8.1 64 bit.
Cpu - Intel Core i3 4150 @3.50GHz
Motherboard HP2AF7
Graphics - W2243 Intel HD Graphics 4400

Just recently my mouse pointer has started to lag badly sometimes stopping completely.

My mouse is a 'Microsoft mobile mouse 3500' wireless. If I removed the usb sender and put it back the mouse is fine for about 30 minutes or so and then it starts to lag again.

Tried the HP mouse supplied and the same thing happens.

Any Ideas !

Try Hovering mouse cursor top right corner, sidebar appears click on SETTINGS, then on "Change PC Settings, in the bottom right on the new screen, click PC and Devices, then on Mouse and Touchpad you should see at the bottom, under ClickDelay uncheck.

If you don't see it then try this:

Hi murf,
There is no Clickdelay to uncheck.

Tried downloading update but a window Stanalone installer pops up saying 'The update is not applicable to your computer'

Try this:

1. Win + R
2. devmgmt.msc
3. Expand Display Adapters
4. Right click on the Intel listing and click update drivers
5. Click on Browse my computer
6. Click on let me pick
7. for Intel Microsoft Corporation WDDM 1.2 (not exact text)
8. Click next

Hi Murf

followed your instructions, on point 7 the only two options were
Intel(R) HD Graphics 4400
Microsoft Basic Display adapter

Went for the Intel option and succesfully updated drivers, unfortunately still experiencing lag.

It appears it is a well known problem, as you research the net.

Does the HP mouse use the same sender as the Microsoft one?

Have you checked your Mouse settings? Under Buttons TAB, ClickLock is it turned on, I use a MS wireless Mouse and Keyboard, just checked mine and it is not checked. Don't know if that would make a difference.

Also have you tried using another USB slot for the sender?
Also assume the batteries are fairly new?

WOW ran out of idea's.

Check and see if you have this update installed:

http://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2903939
  1. Open Windows Update by swiping in from the right edge of the screen (or, if you're using a mouse, pointing to the lower-right corner of the screen and moving the mouse pointer up), tapping or clicking Settings, tapping or clicking Change PC settings, and then tapping or clicking Update and recovery.
  2. Tap or click View your update history.

Well I just went through my updates and don't have that one either. (Windows 8.1). Updates can cause problems so I would not just randomly install them, Windows update should of found all the ones you need for your system.

Does this lag happen no matter what your doing? Or maybe just in games?

As I did find a patch for mouse lagging but supposedly it happens for games?

Hi Murf

Don't play any games, lag happens with normal use.

When the mouse slows down/lags If I unplug the sender and plug straight back again I have about 30-40mins before lagging again.

This has only recently happen

I keep seeing this problem, but never with a definitive answer.

Then it should still be under warranty.

So it is not the mouse.

Have you scanned for malware?

Next time it starts lagging, open Task Manager and see what your system resources are doing - in particular, your CPU and RAM utilization.

Hi Guys,

Swapped back to the HP mouse with sender and changed the keyboard (which was a Microsoft one) for the original HP wireless keyboard (which uses the same sender as the mouse), so far so good, no lag.

Sorry I didn't mention the keyboard, didn't think that might be the problem.

Anyway all looks good at the moment.

Thanks guys for all your help and patience, you do a great job as always.

Until the next time, cheers

Hmmm, that is interesting because I use Microsoft Comfort 5000 Keyboard and Mouse combos on two different computers (W7 and W8) with no problems and have never had lag or delay problems. In fact, I liked the first set so much, I bought the second.

It seems odd the keyboard would cause problems with the mouse - even with a common receiver. Sending keystrokes uses such a minute amount of bandwidth, I cannot image why or how it could drag down the mouse, unless the keyboard's transmitter was faulty.

Did you have the latest driver for the keyboard too?
