Uninstalling vista, Installing XP

Ok i have had enough of vista. it causing me to much headache

I was just wondering how i would go about uninstalling vista and putting on Xp home? i have the vista install CD so can go back to that when/if it gets better -_-

Ok so been reading up, it appears it is possible to go back to XP Home, By formatting my HD and then simply install XP using the CD, ofc i will have a new version with a vaid KEY(anyone ever used this site BTW http://www.saverstore.com/?)

Now is it really that simple?

1. how would i find out if all my hardware is compatable or has XP drivers avalible?
2. what hardware do i need to check this for?
3. do i have to back anything up?
4. how do i format my HD :P

first of all, you need full retail version of xp. No oem or upgrade.

Then you need to go to the computer manufacturers website and see if they have drivers available for xp. If not it will be a major headache trying to find all the drivers you will need.

It will be a clean install so unless you want to backup your vista and place it on a second drive for possible use later, its not necessary.

Maybe you need to consider doing a dual boot, this way you can learn visa and mess around with it as time permits.

You can use dban to format your drive

Ok i new about the upgrade version, but why carnt i buy a OEM?

mate i have had so many problems with it that it will be worth the headache of getting vista gone hehe. so that could be a pain to find out tho, would it be ok for me to post them on here and someone could double check after i have to make sure my hardware is ok?

TBH i think ill just go with formatting and clean install. once i have XP on there i can just install vista using the CD later on right ?

You cannot buy oem because its only for a newly built computer that never had an operating system. Yours is no longer newly built and it had an operating system. In addition if the oem came with another computer, you can never transfer it to another computer.

But surely if i format the harddrive it them becomes a kinda new system? with no OS?

i had an offer of £90 to get Vista removed and XP installed thats including XP home.

or £120 for a partition inc XP home i thought retail version was really expensive?

So how much and were do i get a full retail version of OEM XP home?

As I said You already had an operating system assigned to your computer, You CANNOT use any oem except for the one that originally came with your computer. You can only use the full retail version of xp if you no longer want vista. Yes the full retail version is expensive but you have no choice since you are the one who is wanting to downgrade your operating system.

Sure in not arguing that fact mate, but wondering how can the shop were i got my PC from unistall vista, reinstall XP home and supply me with a copy of XP home for only £90 i thought full retail was real expensive?

most likely installed an illegal oem copy of xp.

Don't forget about the driver problem renegade600 advised you of in his first post.

Some newer hardware doesn't have XP drivers available. When the manufacturers knew their hardware would be used on a system with Vista preinstalled, some haven't bothered writing XP drivers.

I recommend you locate XP drivers first before proceeding to make sure they're available.

Ok yeah i will defo locate drives first, i have a custom made system, and if it requres me changing a few components to make it compatable i will do that, but if i need to change most components i will just have to bear with vista :P

i carnt seem to find anything about my mobo being compatable

ASUS P5N-E SLI Socket 775

Ok so i have now found that my

motherboard, and GPU are compatable.

I carnt find if my pentium E6750 is compatable tho,

What else shall i check HD,RAM....
